I have been a fan of Nolan Reimold’s for years. Going back to his minor league days, many people close to the Orioles were telling me how awesome his power was.
Not only did he have pop, he was considered an above-average outfielder with better-than-average speed.
When he finally made his Major League debut in 2009, Reimold displayed the skills that made him one of Baltimore’s top prospects.
Reimold hit .279 with 15 home runs and 45 runs batted in. He also stole eight bases. He was named the AL Rookie of the Month for June. It looked like he would be a fixture in left field for the Orioles for many years.
Alas, it seems as though it wasn’t meant to be.
When Baltimore returns to the baseball diamond on Friday night in Texas against the Rangers, Reimold will not be on it.
Again.
Multiple reports have him being placed on the DL for the second time this season.
During his Orioles career, Reimold has dealt with an injured Achilles, had surgery on a herniated disc in his neck and suffered a right hamstring injury.
According to Ed Encina of the Baltimore Sun, Reimold’s latest setback appears to be neck related.
He just can’t stay healthy, unfortunately.
Reimold turns 30 in October. He is no longer the prospect guy. He is the injury-prone outfielder/DH.
Sadly, time seems to running out of the Nolan Reimold era in Baltimore.
But the Henry Urrutia era is about to get started.
